Imperial Famille Rose Kungfu Tea Set – 13-Piece Tea Set

Sale price$300 SGD

Emperor Kangxi's obsession with porcelain was matched by few. As early as 1693, Emperor Kangxi established imperial workshops inside the Forbidden City devoted to developing painted enamels so every piece could be perfected under his watch. This leads to the development of Falangcai —the groundbreaking enamel technique that would later inspire Famille Rose, one of the most celebrated styles of the Qing Dynasty. Falangcai was made to imperial order and exclusively for the imperial court. Due to its complexity and high production cost, this art form was revered as "imperial ware among imperial wares" It was among the rarest and most dazzling ceramic wares of the Qing Dynasty.

This meticulous process begins with a porcelain body, followed by a high-temperature firing for strength and brilliance. Once the layered overglaze enamels are added, a second, lower-temperature firing completes the piece. The glaze requires precise control to avoid discoloration or cracking.

From these imperial ateliers, in the early 1700s, emerged Famille Rose. Famille Rose porcelain emerged in the late Kangxi period and was refined into one of the most celebrated enamel traditions of Qing-dynasty ceramics during the Yongzheng era.

Why We Love This

These flourishing blossoms symbolize prosperity and abundance.

The vivid palette, enriched by the brilliance of Famille Rose enamels, lends the piece a luxurious allure — showcasing the refined artistry cultivated within the imperial ateliers of the Kangxi era
